Let me preface this by stating that I am just a small-time action player, not a pro.

Had played through local for years until a few weeks back when he had to take a leave of absence, so I opened an account at Oly. Was always a little leery of sending my $$ offshore and leaving an electronic "papertrail."

I should have switched years ago.

Online is so much more convenient in dozens of ways; you can get better lines, shop around, place bets anytime and not just during "call times" where you often have to take whatever number is available then.

It has also helped with $$ management. It's an entirely different ballgame when you have to front the $$ as opposed to playing on credit for the week. Much easier not to chase, double-up, bail out, etc. After a loss, the $$ is gone. After a win, the $$ is in your account and you're not as tempted to "let it all ride" on Monday Night Football or something stupid like that.

If any of you are still playing through a local bookie, I advise you to switch to online accounts. It is better in so many ways that I can't even describe it here. The only advantage of playing through a local is getting that envelope full of ca$h at the end of the week, but it's not worth all the shortcomings. GL

I hear ya

Nothing wrong with that, I dont see the big issue though by playing through local books, you just have to know whom you are dealing with first. There are places that I would never go and then there are places that I trust. But Hey just a point of view

What paper trail?

Are there any records of consequence in online transactions?

At this point I don't belive so. Some guys here (not me) transfer thousands of dollars from their banks to a book and back in a short amount of time. They haven't reported any problems. Of course they report all their winning to the IRS, because that is the law.

However, pending some anti-gambling legislation, things could take turn for the worse.
If you get a chance you can do a search here at The RX and read about the Leech bill.
